I was all ready, for Summer Art Market, probably as ready as I’ve ever been. But some sort of micro burst Friday night destroyed the tent. So if you were looking for me, and couldn’t find me, that’s why. Most of the art was not hung yet, so I haven’t discovered any damaged art, amazingly.
There was a replacement tent available, but it was sort of a bedraggled thing, and it did not seem like any professional presentation was going to happen, so I cleaned up and went home. I had a couple of beers with a friend, and a sort of mopey week cleaning and sorting through the mess, then a few days doing classes and got some sleep, and then decided it was time to move on.
What that will look like in the long term is up in the air, but with no tent, probably not a street fair. There are a few things already planned, mentioned in my last post, and those are plenty to keep me busy. I’m already in studio making new work, though how much I’ll ultimately need is undetermined, with an unused show in storage. Here’s a reminder of what’s coming up:
Kirkland Denver Art Museum, “Colorado ‘Round the Clock”: My piece in this show, “November Dusk” is now up, I’m told, but I haven’t heard of plans for an opening of any sort.
NKollectiv, Englewood, “Artmore”: In association with the fine folks at Artma, will feature several pieces, a mix of work. And probably a large crowd. I may mix in an older work or two. This one opens in January 2027 and runs through February. I obviously have plenty of new work that did not get shown at the SAM, so expect a mix of larger and smaller new work. There will presumably be a First Friday showing, and I will try to be there, too.
Rolo Gallery, 910 Santa Fe Drive: I’ll have about 15 pieces here, and I’ll be showing with Margaret DeKoven starting April 1, 2027. There’s no opening info yet, but I will try to be there for 1st and 3rd Friday ( 2nd and 16th), as well as any separate opening planned. It goes through May 9th, which implies that I will be there May 7th as well.

A new alternative is JoeHigginsMonotypes.squaresite.com.( You can find it on the menu bar, up top. I haven’t put much work up yet (about 30 pieces), but will be adding more all Fall. There are shipping or pick up options, assuming I’ve tweaked the right buttons under the hood- I’ll be checking that soon. As soon as I get through the shakedown, I promote a launch special.
Celebration Days, the Art Students League’s sampler series, comes to Denver Arts Week! I’ll be active both November 8 and 15. The 8th features a drop in day from 11-3, and is very inexpensive. You can go from room to room, sampling quick projects in different studios ( ceramics, fabric, etc). In the print room, there will be two of us, so you will probably get to try two different techniques, though it’s not finalized which yet. Materials provided! Family groups are welcome.
Rockin’ Around the Printing Press, Nov 15th: A new concept I’m trying, small repeatable prints that can be mailed as cards/gifts. You’ll choose simple but meaningful imagery, then assemble a variety of images in different colors and combos. Materials provided. Again, groups are welcome, though there is a class size limit, so move fast.

Monotypes for Beginners, November 4: Another small calamity that befell was a bad cold that cancelled my last last sampler, in September. Here’s a chance to recoup, if you were unable to take that class ( the above two may also work for you). Four weeks of detailed instruction for beginners, featuring stencils, color mixing and inking, with other assorted techniques thrown in. Materials provided! It’s a nice way to meet new friends.
